Cinderella Pumpkin
okay! let's have a look at this gorgeous Cinderella pumpkin squash that we're about to roast. this baby was so easy to cut- unlike the struggle one has trying to hack through a butternut squash.

Food Thoughts from the Indian River
dear Barbara ate some real fine food this week and because i hate the photos from the Fuji camera i refuse to post many images. but---i did pick up another device and it performs in a most excellent way. down at the river house we love to eat so i'll try out the new camera on:
-something with avocado
-a roast split chicken
-a risotto with Cinderella pumpkin
back to Barbara's Food: i brought her
-my new favorite appetizer:
-Asparagus Wrapped in Hot Capicola & Dill Havarti with a Smear of Hot Honey Mustard/Mayo
(recipe upon request)
-Spinach/ Baby Portabello/cheddar Quiche (i think quiche is a wonderful standby meal especially with an arugula salad backing it up.)
this photo is not too bad...
so sister baby D calls on Christmas in confusion and laughing hysterically about what side was breast side up for her turkey...i think she was delirious because of her special Guest arriving and probably thought she had a ham and not a turkey....

J.C. got his second lesson in gravy making at the House of the Pink Pillars and damn he's a good assistant...giving miss Bubbles a run for her money just by knowing when to do whatever i say without me saying it... that's what i call anticipation.

what's in the garden now
it's cold but i'm in florida so it will be warm again soon so i'll quit complaining. the cool weather does help the broccoli in the garden. here's the foodthat's growing right now: lettuces, arugula, broc and cauliflower, some kind of bean, little Italian beets and onions, carrots and spinach. the parsley loves this cool weather, too.
here's the salad of the year for me:
fresh arugula
thinly sliced sweet onion
shaved Asiago or Parmesan
fresh croutons if you have them
salt & pepper the salad with kosher salt
drizzle olive oil on greens
add seasoned rice wine vinegar (this one is sweeter and absolutely wonderful for oil & vinegar dressing)
toss and then eat the whole thing...
what's cooking for Christmas?

bean burrito at midnite
so let's get this food blog started...it's almost one a.m. and i couldn't take it-i had to have a midnite snack after reading a NYT food article. just a simple bean burrito but with the flour tortilla slightly crisp from heating in the black pan and the cheese melted into the beans- yum. i like that Face greek yogurt instead of sour cream and finely chopped sweet onion with chipotle Tabasco to complete the simple burrito.
i'm still hungry, though...
